ADVENTURE RACING

AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURE RACER, GUY ANDREW'S

AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURE RACER, GUY ANDREW'S Interview, Wed 21st March 07 with Guy Andrews, Team Anaconda, following the Keen Adventure Race:

"Absolutely love these lights! Both Darren and I were wrapped with them. The lights provided more than enough light for the type of racing they were doing. On the bike we rode quite a bit of single track in the overnight stage so the combination of the handle bar mounted lights and the helmet mounted set lit up the tracks really well with the helmet providing you with the option of scanning ahead. The Ay Up doesn’t throw the longest beam (HID is longer) but they provide a cleaner broader beam. The overall weight of the complete set is a big plus in adventure racing and because of the size of the batteries, you can carry spares in your pack and have your lights rigged up on your bike at the start of the stage as they are small enough not to interfere with controls on the handlebars and also your map board that sits over the top. The battery life on the 6 hour battery is amazing and we were able to switch on and off in order to conserve power and get through the night stage on the one battery which is unheard of in lighting systems on the market at the moment. I have used the "Min Min" in the last and this is just so much more superior. The other advantage with having the small batteries is that you can have them all charged up and just change over because in this type of racing you aren’t always going to be able to recharge your batteries. The other advantage we had over our competitors (Usher and Walker) on the night stage was that we were able to go straight from the bike to foot (with helmets on) to a transition point were we went to kayak for a short paddle to a checkpoint. Other teams lost valuable time changing to other lights.

Overall the Ay Up’s are a great lighting system for Adventure Racing due to the amount of light they provide, their reliability and most importantly their weight and at the price, they are the best value for money system on the market"

Darren and I were pretty happy with our 2nd place down at the Keen race, finishing behind the current world champions Richard Ussher and Gordon Walker but we will be back next year to improve on that and the Ay Up’s will be a big part of our race strategy in 08!

Cheers

Guy

DARREN CLARKE - ADVENTURE RACER

Race report - Raid the North Extreme, Canada 2007

Just wanted to let Ay Up know I was glad to have the lights on my team for the Raid the North Extreme, British Columbia. I raced with Team Sole for the win !!!
The lights never let me down, though the rain, snow, bush, and mud, for 4 days and 3 nights. Unfortunately, I was the only one blessed on my team with a set of Ay Up's. Fortunately, when my teammate's light faltered I was able to give him my helmet with the Ay Up setup. I used my Ay Up handle bar setup. One light each was more than ample light for the both of us on the technical single track.
The team was especially impressed with the light weight of lights and batteries.
No one should be left in the dark with out their Ay Up's.

Cheers,

Darren Clarke

GEOQUEST ADVENTURE RACE 2007

Just letting you know the lights were fantastic for geoquest. They were so bright and I barely used any batteries at all.
I ended passing on my lights and batteries to my partner in the KEEN team as they were out for two nights and ran out of batteries. They were well received and I think all the team were impressed with the power and lasting of the batteries compared to theirs.
At the presentation ceremony Guy gave a big speil about the lights and mentioned that he Sam and I used them in the race. We all as a result had many people asking as about them so I hope that will be a good boost to your sales.

RYAN HAWSON - MTB RACER

Finishing 3rd outright at Noosa Enduro, not bad considering I smashed my front deralier with 96km of the race still to go, so only used middle ring ....
Some days I am on the bike at 4am, just me and my ay-up lights showing long climbs up to Mt Nebo. The lights and batteries are super small, and traffic on the road must think I am an motorbike!
One week in June, I did 17 hours of riding under the powerful white glow of Ay Up Lighting, without your lights and support I would not be having as successful season as I am having.

Thanks again.....I am looking forward to the night MTB races.

TRAVIS MACY - MTB XC / ENDURO / ADVENTURE RACER

Hi Andrew.... testimonial here from Travis!

I just returned from my first ride with the new AY UP light system, and, simply put, it knocked my socks off. The size and weight are less than half of what I've been using with other systems, and the battery life is sufficient for
24-hour mountain bike races and expedition adventure races. I'm amazed that these little guys actually provide enough light for technical Colorado singletrack! The minimalist battery charger, the car cigarette lighter hookup, and the padded neoprene carrying sachel will all be perfect for international travel. I can't wait to get out on the race course with AY UP!

ANDREW FELLOWS - MTB AND ADVENTURE RACER

KELLEVIE 24HR was Tasmania's first MTB 24HR. Team rider Andrew Fellows took solo first place just two weeks after winning the Kooralbyn 24HR. Here's his race report.

Report

Last weekend I had the pleasure of test riding the new and exciting AY UP light system. The race I was attending was the first ever Tasmanian 24hr Mountain Bike Race. It was cold, wet and extremely wind, exactly what a Queenslander wanted!
